What is A Certificate of Conformity (CoC)?

A Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is a document that states vehicle particulars in relation to European Commission (EC) Type Approval standards, along with other important information and vehicle specifications.

Certificate of Conformity’s are a legal requirement for new motor vehicles and were introduced in1998; the Certificate of Conformity’s have 51 numbered lines and are generally not available for any new model of motor vehicle manufactured and type approved before early 1998. 

Certificate of Conformity’s are a legal requirement for new motorcycles and were introduced in 2001. In 2004 Certificate of Conformity’s became a legal requirement for all vehicles.

In addition, please be aware that the EWVTA Certificate of Conformity (CoC) applies to products built for the EU market only, if the vehicle is a non-EU build, then a Certificate of Conformity will not be in existence.

What is a Certificate of Construction?

This is also referred to as a ‘Dating Letter’ and is usually available for all products manufactured worldwide. A Certificate of Construction contains the date and country of manufacture and is usually issued in absence of certificate of conformity.
